Shortly after The Adventures of Superman radio programs began airing (on February 12, 1940), the most popular radio magazine of the day, Radio and Television Mirror, started re-presenting the stories in text format with artwork depicting scenes from the tale.  Dated May, 1941 (Vol. 16, issue 1) this issue of Radio and Television Mirror is in fair shape (it shows its age but isn’t beat up) and will be shipped with the utmost care. The cover features Yvette and the rest of the magazine is filled with photos, articles, and vintage advertisements. The Superman story begins on page 54, continues on page 86, and then concludes on page 89. There are no further images of Superman artwork beyond the scanned first page of the story depicted above.  This issue adapts the six-part “Donelli’s Protection Racket” storyline (April 1940). The story introduces Jimmy Olsen, a 14-year-old copy boy at the Daily Planet, who goes to Clark for help.  His mother’s candy store is being terrorized by Gyp Donelli, who runs a protection racket scheme. Superman stops Donelli, but the hood then takes revenge by kidnapping Lois and taking her to a cabin in the woods (which catches on fire, leaving Lois trapped in a burning forest).
Of note, Jimmy Olsen would make his first comic book appearance in Superman #13 (dated November-December, 1941 but actually hitting newsstands on August 26, 1941).  This issue of Radio and Television Mirror pre-dates the comic by three months and is, therefore, the first in-print appearance of one of Superman’s most prominent supporting characters.
