1945 Batman & Robin CGC 9.4 Detective Comics #96

cgc-golden-age-detective-comics-96-batman-and-robin-dick-sprang-cover-art-1cgc-detective-comics-golden-age-dick-sprang-cover-art-batman-robin-2Released at the beginning of the final year of World War II, this issue of Detective Comics #96 encourages readers to back the 6th War Loan.  It features a great cover (which the Grand Comics Database notes as Jack Burnley’s work with Dick Sprang interior art.  Of note, this issue features the first mention of Alfred’s last name, Beagle.  It stayed Beagle for nearly a quarter century until Batman #216 was released in 1969 stating Pennyworth (which it has remained ever since). Also included in the book is a Slam Bradley story (Bradley being an early creation of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster). This copy is only one of three graded at 9.4 with only one graded higher at 9.6. The CGC case is scratch and defect free and will be shipped with the utmost care.
